Regional Disaster Response Team (RDRT) is a disaster response tool practiced by the International Federation for carrying out emergency relief and response operations. The operations of Regional Disaster Response Team have evolved over the past 7 years.
It is a well accepted response tool used to support the National Societies in disaster relief operations in the region and even in other parts of the world The International Federations South Asia Regional Delegation (SARD) started a project to strengthen capacity for disaster response in South Asia. It was done in partnership with the British Red Cross. SARD worked with Six South Asian National Societies to develop a standardised RDRT System for the region. Since then national staff were oriented through three standardised operational training courses.

Past RDRT operational experiences have been very effective, with a challenge to establish a Gender-balanced RDRT system in the South Asia. To advocate for the Integration of a Gender Perspective in Humanitarian Operations, the International Federations South Asia Regional Delegation, organized an RDRT Induction course for women national societys staff in South Asia. The course was oriented for learning by doing simulation exercises, role play and group exercises. RDRT mission cycle-from alert, to deployment to response operation to debriefing. Uniqueness of RDRT functional operations is - involving men and women, at a real time scenario of the team deployment! It is a lesson learnt. Now men and women national staffs of RDR Teams have improved their disaster response operational skills, technical competency, functional support and management by learning from each in a cross-cultural environment.
