Mandelbulb Zoom - 2010.10.09

The Holy Grail of Fractals - I've been into fractals for 20 years. Just last year Daniel White, after searching for a couple of years for a solution, discovered the truly three dimensional Mandelbrot-based formula. They are called Mandelbulbs and they can be wonderful and exquisite landscapes and environment. I'm into it for the art and also the provocation of thought. There are already a number of programs which can generate these and this is my first run at doing an animation. This one is simply a short zoom into a "box" 'brot. Took about an hour to render this at 640x480px with a quad-core CPU.
