Berman's tone of voice makes this a different poem. I'm used to the Robin Williams style of reading it. But Berman makes it sound like the losing of captains happens quite often, and is to be expected, or that he's too tired and wary to emote.
i definitely appreciate this to the max! i wish i could ask whitman how he feels about the musical interpretation and the leaving out of the last verse
