Southwest Chief At Desoto, Ks. 6-15, 2008

Southwest Chief at the West crossing in Desoto, Ks. There are no guard arms, nor bells at this crossing, only flashing red lights. This place is a disaster waiting to happen. If I was in my car with the windows up, and the AC or the radio was on; I wouldn't be able to hear the train horn until he was on top of me. I'm going to be contacting BNSF tomorrow morning about this crossing. Lead locomotive was #83, trailing was #73. The train was probably running at or near the track limit.....THANKS!...Doc n' Kelly

This crossing is much more dangerous now than ever. The new riverfront park is in that area and when there are events there, almost everyone who goes to the events have to use that crossing and the traffic gets really heavy there sometimes. They need bells and crossing arms there more than ever now. I may call BNSF as well and if nothing gets done I may call the news media!

That's interesting In Abilene (on a much less used route) there are gates but no bells and the gates are faded and hard to see I don't know why BNSF doesn't hardly pay attention to what could happen on there less used routes.
