Maggot Brain/ San Francisco '81

5150 was a group and we tried to play way back in about 1981 and we were playing one night at the old Hamm's Brewery Vats in San Francisco-(yes, the apartments were huge tiled beer vats- the "window" had been made in the outer wall with a sledge hammer...and yes, it smelled like beer.) Robin Morris guitar, Alan Stebbinger Guit.,Red Dog Umpqua vocals, Bruce Cooper-Jones Bass, Soren Berlew, Drums...as we left that night we watched as someone dragged an upside down car around the parking lot by a chain hitched to a truck, throwing a shower of sparks...kinda strange...the poem I wrote to go with this bit of wacky video...one of my "croutons" grew into a muffin...see the "MuffinzWithAttitude" video. The song was I thought the best acid guitar solo of the era outside of Jimi's stuff, RIP Eddie Hazel, we used to play it as our one "not punk" tune at my insistence.Before boom boxes were big, back in the seventies, I used to carry a Craig peortable tape player around with me, and listen to it often, and the Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" was in heavy rotation on that. BTW Red Dog isn't heard really on this but used to dig it a lot anyway. The playing is live but I later cut several minutes out so these were the best bits that night.Thanks for watching!

geez, thanx, weavzy...I was playing a LP standard thru a 60 watt head with a teac tape deck suppling echo- usd to wander aroung before boomboxes w/ a little tape dek playing "maggot brain" to anyone who wd listen.

maggot brain is fucken awsome. ...chilling. funkadelic are a very under-rated rock outfit with riffs that are intergalactic and atomic in wieght and soul...love em. well done bro.
