Ms. Lela Mae Rowland, age 63, a former resident of 311 Avenue "A" Roanoke, Alabama, currently residing at Traylor's Nursing Home in Roanoke, passed away on Friday, January 7, 2011 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Alabama.
Public viewing and visitation hours for Mrs. Rowland will be observed on Thursday, January 13, 2011, between the hours of 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Rowland will be held Friday, January 14, 2011, at 1:00 O'Clock P.M. from East Roanoke Pure Holiness Church of God, 311 Wright's Place. Roanoke, Alabama, with Minister Timothy Wright, Pastor, Officiating, and Minister Steve Joiner serving as Eulogist, and Minister Tom Staples.
Burial will follow immediately, in The Skyview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, in Welch, Alabama.
The Obituary
Lela Mae Rowland was born in Bacon Level, Alabama on February 3, 1947 to the parentage of the late Robert Hill, Sr., and Lucille Magby.
She was a faithful member of the East Roanoke Pure Holiness Church of God, where she was a member of the choir and served on the Usher Board, until her health failed.
She was united in marriage to the late Ernest General Rowland. She is also preceded in death by two (2) sons, John Lewis and Tony Fitzgerald Rowland. She enjoyed homemaking, sewing, cooking, and preparing "goodies" for her family and others. Her culinary skills were so appreciated that she came to be known as the "cookie lady" by those who enjoyed her treats.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Tony Rowland and John Rowland.
Lela Mae Rowland departed this life on January 7, 2011 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika, Lee County, Alabama.
Lela leaves behind a lifetime of memories to her (2) two sons, Malcolm Rowland (Mary) and Roddy Rowland (Elizabeth Foster) both of Roanoke, Alabama; her mother-in-law, Ms. Beatrice Rowland of Roanoke, Alabama; five (5) grandchildren: Malcolm, Terrence, Quinton, Carol and Telisia Rowland all of Roanoke, Alabama; one great-grandchild, Rakeelah Allen of Roanoke, Alabama; one (1) brother, Robert Hill of Atlanta, Georgia; two (2) special God-daughters, Erica Staples and C'Naiya "CC" Phillips both of Roanoke, Alabama; seven brothers-in-law; ten (10) sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
