9. Island Girl (Elton John-Live In Sydney: 3/25/1984)

Here's a popular show that is often cited as one of Elton's best concerts: His 37th birthday gig from Sydney, Australia! Tonight's show is a HOT one--with Elton promoting his Two Low For Zero album (I'm Still Standing, Two Low For Zero, etc), playing his classic hits (Rocket Man, Daniel, Your Song, etc), and some relatively obscure material (Teacher I Need You, Hercules, etc). This is one of my personal favorite Elton John concerts of all time. Much of the material on this concert has been compared with the future Wembley 1984 performance: Some say that this concert is better overall! I'll let you debate that!

This concert is in good quality (mono sound unfortunately). I had to use the VHS source, and the "Love Songs" DVD to "patch" in parts of Candle In The Wind, and Crocodile Rock (they had errors on the original sound source). Elton's voice is in top shape (as usual during this time period), and the rest of the band are in stunning form tonight! Molly Meldrum joins on stage for Crocodile Rock (you can hear him do the falsetto parts with Elton)!

The reason for the fast tempo, was because Elton meet with his "Island Girl" before the show: She went into his nasal passages XD

The Stockholm and Copenhagen 1984 versions I have are even faster!
