@jaglavaksoldier That makes a lot of sense. Good to see the reality of the PGS coming to reality.

@jaglavaksoldier I love it when you talk dirty... I mean... tech-y!
-
@stuntmanmike37 Agreed, it was not a very survivable system.
-
@eatingjif It did physically work, but it wasn't very practical and they never deployed it operationally.

They did this same launch method for the Minuteman and the C-5. It didn't work then. Why would it work now?

What is the purpose of this test?

@franknbeans4761 Part of the USAF/DARPA Falcon program to place lightweight satellites and hypersonic glide vehicles in low earth orbit quickly and at low cost.

@jaglavaksoldier Oh alright I thought I heard about that. Didn't they try this a couple decades ago and it wasn't as effective? I know Pegasus Operations have been going on since 1990.

@franknbeans4761 The R & D technology of that time was not mature enough...The successful testing of the this program and X-51 hypersonic cruise missile program feeds in the the USAF's Prompt Global Strike (PGS) effort to develop a system that can deliver a precision conventional weapon strike anywhere in the world within one hour.
