  • I wonder why schiphol needs aircraft to crosswind-land. Aren't there enough runways available to prevent this from happening?

  • the have i think 7 runways but i am not shure this was the polderbaan the longest runway

  • You didn't answer my question. There are 6 runways at Schiphol. There are enough runways to prevent aircraft to be in need of crosswind-landing, so my question was: Why did they decide to open the polderbaan for landings that day?

  • i dont know ?

  • Excellent video- the paintwork makes the Jade aircraft look like Godzilla.

  • thank you allot :D

  • @EftelFan

NEGATIVE 120....140... or 160....That wind was comming between 210 and240 ! I know this runway like my backyard...! ;) Have uploaded a lot of videos i have shot on this runway, and from both sides. I also know this little teenager who filmed this footage, filmed him once in a "full motion B737 Flight Sim"..! AND last but not the least, i have a friend who's Captain with this Cargo Airline...check him out on my Face Book photos..!

  • What's song???????????

  • @Gyroglle

    polderbaan meant a delay-free landing

rwy24 rwy22 rwy27 meant holding delays of 45mins (use same approach)

all other rwy were unusable due to wind

  • @Gyroglle A bit late answer but better than never.

Schiphol has 5 runways, and one for light aircraft(22-04). 3 of those 5 runways are parrallel(18-36), we got the 09-27 and the 24-06, landings on 09 and 18L never happen due to noise. So when the wind comes from 140, they landing on 18 and takeoff from 24/18L, there isn't much to choose as you can see..

  • The exact reason is for normal people like us to gues.. we don't know. You could ask the LVNL (luchtverkeersleiding Nederland or in English Air Traffic Control the Netherlands).

I can tell you it is strange they used this runway. You can see on the movie that the wind is coming from a heading of approximately 140 degrees (coudl be 120 or 160 you know but just a guess). They have other runways that are better for these winds (like runway 22 or 24.

Besides, the Polderbaan is the longest taxi...
