  • My father, Captain Martin J Higgins, was the Acting commander of the Lost Battalion. He was buried with military honors in Arlington National Cemetery, on 15 May 2007.

The only flowers we allowed to be placed on his grave were the crimson red Hawaiian Anthuriums sent by the 442 RCT veterans.

    Me ka pumehana

`O au nô me ka `oia`i`o

    Michael P. Higgins,

Proud son of Captain Martin J. Higgins

    Acting Commander Lost Battalion

    1st Bttn., 141st Infantry Regt

    36th Infantry Division

  • It's a shame they had to suffer at the hands of bigots and ignorant people, but it's also a credit to them that they rose above it all and proved their racist detractors wrong, many times over! Hats off to them!

my father was a corporal in the 442nd RTC, we celebrated his 86th birthday in August. His older brother Jack was in the 100th Battlalion, past away a few years ago.

We always have a bond with the 36th.

    regards and aloha

  • Pretty Cool Song and at this very moment, Im watching the movie "Go For Broke" on DVD, which is by the way, one of my favorite WWII Movies that depict the Brave Men and Women that fought against Facism.

  • thank you so much for this information. this is very touching. aloha.

  • Thank you for this song. My father and his brothers, Japanese Americans from St.Louis, Missouri, fought in Europe in WWII. My uncle, Chester Tanaka wrote the book, Go For Broke. Looking back on family gatherings, I don't recall them talking about the war. They were very quiet about it, as I think most of these Japanese American men were. Truly the Quiet "Giants", just doing their jobs.
