He played 8 string on most of Presence. His post Zep years he even played a 12 string bass.As far as proof of all the different basses he has played just check out his website where there are plenty of pictures of him playing all kinds of instruments AND even pics of him playing without a pick.Also there is a pretty comprehensive list of basses he has played on his wikipedia page, 4, 8, 10 and 12 string basses. Now he uses a pick on the 8, 10 an 12 string basses.

There are so many videos of JPJ playing with his fingers... how come you guys never saw them? For example in Dazed and Confused he doesn't use a pick! If i'm not wrong i think i've seen him play a double string bass!
