This interactive lecture uses an optical illusion to show students that understanding challenging concepts requires patience and a willingness to learn, ask questions, and work with others. They learn that it is all right if they don't "see it" right away and that it is their responsibility to help peers that are struggling. I use this activity during the semester to reinforce what students learned at Boot Camp.

What is Boot Camp?
Boot Camp is an interactive skill-building program where students discuss and practice the skills required for success in high school, college, and beyond. For more information visit www.apbootcamp.com

Why run Boot Camp?
I spend one week making sure my students have the right attitude and skills. One week is about 3% of the school year. If my students are 3% more productive then the time I spent at boot camp is worth it. The truth is that the students are 10%, 20%, or 50% more productive because they are excited and prepared. They will be able to learn faster and more efficient than students that don't attend boot camp. Most importantly, boot camp trains students to help their peers. They learn that it is their responsibility to help others because some day they may be the ones who need help.
