Itsy a Kemp's ridley sea turtle that stranded as a hatchling missing her right front flipper from entanglement.. She was already a survivor but , she is truly a miracle! I have worked with sea turtles for 11 years and the most amazing thing happened with her. She had severe pneumonia when she arrived and she was on antibiotics to help her recover. It was August the 21st, I will never forget the day! I went to check on her and she was dead, she was not breathing or responding to touch, she was very cold and limp, she was a dead turtle. I jumped in the van still in my wet suit from the feeding program and another staff member was driving us to the Animal hospital while she lay in my lap along with praying for this not to be happening to my baby turtle, I started giving her mouth to snout. I did not know if it would work or not but I had to get her to breathe again. After about 5 minutes on the way to the vet my little lifeless turtle raised her little head up and gasped for air and came back to join us. No one could believe it, I left with a dead turtle and brought back a live one. I was so surprised and happy that we almost drove off the road, we could not believe the miracle we just witnessed! It feels great to still have Itsy a year after that happened and I am grateful to have been a part of it! It pretty cool to say you got to resuscitate the most endangered species of sea turtles. Mouth to snout works on sea turtles, just be sure and protect yourself with a mouth shield.
Looks like you've got another Tiki on your hands!
