This is about Jonis daughter born out of wedlock in 1965, whose name was Kelly -- the "Kelly green" Joni cleverly works into the last line of the song (and which was cut from the version recorded for "Blue.") It's poignant to see the fresh sadness breaking through in this performance, not to mention the anger, which tellingly flashes through at the 1:58 mark on the word "lies."
