This video demonstrates my Uberti reproduction of the Smith and Wesson Schofield break action revolver. This version is a replica of the pistol as issued to U.S. Cavalry troopers, except it is chambered in the longer .45 Colt cartridge. As such it can still fire the shorter .45 Schofield cartridge as well. The video begins with unloading and clearing the pistol. Six empty brass cartridges were loaded prior to filming. To unload, the pistol is half cocked, the rear sights pilled back to unlock the cylinders, and the barrel is rapidly pulled down causing the extractor to kick out the empty cartridges. The video then follows with loading five rounds and lowering the hammer on the empty sixth chamber for safe carry. Note that the empty chamber is pointed out before the pistol is fully cocked and the hammer lowered. This pistol can also be loaded using the pictured .44 magnum sized speed loaders.
This is a very fun pistol. Trigger pull is very heavy: I would guess around six pounds, though I shall have to gauge it to be sure. The Schofield doesn't point as naturally as its more famous contemporary, the Colt Single Action Army or "Peacemaker." However, the Schofield does have an easier to acquire sight picture and of course is quicker to reload than with the Colt's loading gate.
For the critics: the camera is mounted on a tripod to my right. At no time was the weapon handled with a round aligned with the hammer, nor did the pistol's barrel come within 45 degrees of pointing at myself. The first rule of gun safety, always treat the weapon as if it were loaded, was specifically observed.

  • i went to look for 44 mag speedloaders and i found there is no genaric size. would a s&w model 29 speed loader work?

  • @choopdewoot Look up "HKS" speedloaders in .44. That is what I have and can confirm it works. I am not familliar with S&W speedloaders, so I cannot comment on them unfortunately. Hope this helps somewhat.

  • @busboy999 it dose. quite grateful. 45 colt to me is a decent self defence round. not to much recoil decent power, easy reload. not cheap to buy though lol. me being a lefty its hard to find a left handed revolver. but by the way the schofeilds set up. its the only 100% truly ambi weapon i have ever found on the net. dont know what ill do with it once i get it though lol

  • @choopdewoot Just enjoy it. *grin* I have carried this pistol concealed once, more on a lark than anything. The full size schofield replicas aren't good personal side arms compared to a modern automatic in my opinion. A 1911 by Kimber is my carry piece. However, single action revolvers are so very fun!

I do have to agree, the schofield is about the only truly symetrical and ambidextrous pistols I know of.

  • how durable is it? any hiccups?

  • @choopdewoot I have never had a single issue with it, though I will note it has never been "in the field." I have a high deal of confidence in it however.

  • that's one hell of a gun, huge by todays stadards, how long is the barrel?

It may not be practical to carry around for self defence but I've been living in a country where they will arrest you for just saying the word "gun" (Canada) for to long, I'm pretty sure if we got rid of gun control I would probably carry one on me just to satisfy my ego rather then self defence.

  • @busboy999 im a big revolver fan. other than the 1911,the beretta 92fs and the cz83 i honestly dont like any other autos.

the chiappa rhino and the mateba unica 6 are some favorite revolvers simply for the weird factor. the rhino is the ugliest while the unica 6 is the best looking. but the schofeild would have to be my favorite firearm that i never touched or have even seem in person. all the history behind it. the inovation. and the pertyness lol

  • @glynamus You know, I wouldn't mind the safety nazies if they were correct. "ZOMG! UNSAFE! HITLER! AHHHH!" So-and-sos have no idea. Anyhoo, the Schofield is a great pistol, very fun! If you decide to make the purchase, you will enjoy it. If its hard on your pocketbook though, look at a Uberti SAA first perhaps. I have one of them too and its a lot of fun.

  • nice firearm. very good demo of empty and reloading. no stuipid loud music or chat. dont worry bout the saftey nazi's out there. they just ole hens. now im going to buy one or two of those this 2012. thanks for making me broke hahahahahhaha

  • @mdude009 Sorry for the late reply. Its a 7" barrel.
