Here's how amazing the very first electric radio phonograph sounded playing a Brunswick Light-Ray electrically recorded phonograph record. Note the clarity of the words and also the lack of wobble to the pitch and speed of the playback. This is not the original amplifer yet however the turntable is all original, as is the record itself - from the early mid 20's and amogst the first amplified phonographs in the world.
Enjoy THE PAL THAT I LOVED STOLE THE GAL THAT I LOVED Brunswick record 2740.

  • It is wonderful to see one of these fine sets in operation! I too own a Brunswick Panatrope PR-148C, however it is yet unrestored. It is complete though every tube is missing. I'm afraid replacing all the tubes will be a costly endeavor. So it is on the back burner for now. Thank you for demonstrating yours with an early Light-Ray recording! I'm afraid YouTube doesn't quite do justice for the sound quality as hearing it in person would.

  • @Aerofox441 Glad you liked it. Please subscribe to my channel if you haven't already. Happy Holidays.

  • Brunswick Lite Rays have terrible sound in my opinion. It was a failed process and why they switched to the better Westinghouse recording technique. I have read they had many complaints from consumers on it and compared to Victors and Columbias of the same time they sound pale.

  • It looked to me like first, he flicked the stylus to get any lint off it, then made a quick final check to make sure the screw holding the stylus in place was snug enough.

  • wow, thanks for this wonderful and rare experiene to hear an early Brunswick electric machine! it sounds good!! You must be proud to own this. I agree with pax41 about the sound of the early light rays. It almost hurts to find hot abe lymans on that label, because you know they will howl and ruin the music.

  • This is a very interesting machine. Where did you find it? Please upload some more videos of it!

  • i won this record on eBay because i wanted to hear and post it on my exponential-type panatrope, 14-7 from 1927. the newbie seller mailed it to someone else who eventually returned it. then the seller shipped it to me in flimsy envelope so i got it in pieces.

  • I have one of these and have had a problem getting it going. I had the power amp rebuilt but I have a problem with a lite smoke and /smell comeing from Radio drawer. Anyone out there work on these? Many Thanks!

  • is the speaker original? moving coil dynamic or moving iron?

  • but which did he love most...the pal or the gal?

  • bob: we of the strictly-soundbox society, wondering WHAT are you doing to the electric pickup before you place the needle on the record?

does one have to angle it in a certain manner?
