In Maharashtra, a special task force called Force One was created to combat militant attacks, a year after terror attacks in Mumbai left more than 160 dead.
Force One was officially instated at a ceremony on Tuesday at a training establishment in Mumbai's suburbs.
The exclusive unit is similar to the nation's elite National Security Guards. 216 personnel from the state police volunteered to be regular commandos of Force One.
[Ashok Chavan, Chief Minister, Maharashtra]:
Kudos to the volunteering personnel from the police, this outfit has become a reality. And the Home Ministry has timely trained the personnel of Force One.
India broke off talks with Pakistan after the Mumbai assault, and is pressing Pakistan to dismantle the Lashkar-e-Taiba's militant groups infrastructure the group blamed for the attacks.
Pakistani authorities have put seven Lashkar members on trial for their links to the Mumbai violence.
Force one is better than SWAT GIGN and GSG9
