In our must-see kickoff event, Ben will share his extensive experiences in journalism, and in life, through stories and live music.

Ben Fong-Torres, a Bay Area native, is best known as a writer with Rolling Stone, Parade, and many other magazines. He is the author of seven books, including a best-selling memoir, The Rice Room: Growing Up Chinese-American, an anthology, Not Fade Away, and Hickory Wind: The Life and Times of Gram Parsons, which was optioned for a film by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. His latest anthology, Becoming Almost Famous, was published by Backbeat Books in 2006, along with The Doors by The Doors, which was published by Hyperion. A book on the Grateful Dead will be published later this year, and a book about and with Quincy Jones, is due in 2010.
