This is my friend in Montréal, Julie, who has had a Birmingham hip resurfacing. She, her mother, and friend shot the video. I edited it and wrote the music.
Her recovery is nothing short of unbelievable. At 4 weeks she can already walk up and down stairs with no cane or crutch! Hip replacement/resurfacing can be very traumatic, but she was in the gifted hands of Koen De Smet, in Belgium and her recovery has gone VERY well. Julie is funny and vivacious - and her optimistic attitude shows in her footage. Congratulations Julie on a brilliant recovery so far!
Ça roule ma poule!
I've had left hip resurfaced in 2007 and just had my right done June 1st 2011. Had arthritis in both bad. Pilates really helped me get stronger quicker, kept my core & back strong. I'm at 4 weeks and am about to get rid of the cane. Work on strength, then mobility. Muscles need to re-stabilize the hip and rebalance the body & gait.

Hi Sparky, I am now 4 months post op. I feel great!! Recovery does take some time & patience. I was in pain from them moving my muscle to get to my hip. So, that hurts. But at least after surgery, you know you will improve. Today, I walk and get around as if I am normal. People would never guess I had my hip replaced! However, I can never jog-I was told. But with perthes, I could not jog before surgery. So, not much has changed! I did get the ok to roller skate. I am hoping I can do that soon!

Hi had my BMHR 8 weeks now, i still cant stretch to tie my left shoe other then that i'm still doing aqua therapy and it's slowly getting better. I still have a little limp every now and then since my butt muscle hasn't completely strengthened up yet, you don't realize how much you use it to walk till it's gone lol. I'm 31 an AVN patient and now i've found out my other side needs the same operation. it could have been saved but it's very experimental procedure in britain if the ball was in tact

I hope I recover as quickly as you do! I am getting my right hip replaced on April 12th. I am young, too, only 34 years old but need a replacement due to a childhood disease I had called legg perthes that damaged my femoral head. Why did you need surgery? Thanks for sharing your recovery experience! :)

THAT was AMAZING! I just passed my first year post-op (July 2007, right hip resurface) and it's GREAT! My recovery wasn't as fast as yours but faster than I thought it would be! God's blessings and keep having FUN! :P
