In this video, I show how to use the free Wotan Client to flash your Sony Ericsson phone. While I'm only flashing my arc, it works on the X10, Play, Neo and many others.

Visit http://www.wotanserver.com to see the list of supported phones, create a free account and download the client (located under http://www.wotanserver.com/en/page/support).

Wotan Server has many different firmwares from all around the world for many different build versions.e.g. v2.3.2, v.2.3.3, v2.3.4, Build 4.0.A.2.368, etc.

The NEWEST Xperia firmwares as of 2011-11-01:
arc: 4.0.2.A.042
X10: 3.0.1.G.0.75
Complete index of X10 firmwares: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936733

Typically, it is the firmware with the higher number, obviously.

Your phone does NOT have to be rooted (flashing wipes EVERYTHING annyways).
Your bootloader does NOT have to be unlocked (it also does NOT unlock your bootloader).
It does NOT SIM/network unlock your phone. It does NOT re-lock your phone if your phone is already unlocked. SIM/network unlocking is completely independent of any firmware and in unaffected by any flashing.

You can flash ANY corresponding firmware onto ANY corresponding phone regardless of SIM lock, bootloader condition or root.
e.g. flash a generic PLAY firmware onto a branded PLAY phone and vice versa.
flash a branded Neo firmware onto a generic Neo phone.
etc.

WARNING: DO NOT downgrade from v2.3.4 back to v2.3.3 or v2.3.2 or you may experience the 0% battery issue. XDA threads with help regarding the 0% battery issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18913335#post18913335

Wotan Server firmware files are NOT convert-able to Bin4ry's FlashTool FTF files. (I've tried for a while with no luck and I've also asked for Bin4ry's help.)

As always, before flashing your phone, BACKUP all your data: APN/3G settings (use the free APN Backup & Restore available on the Market), SMS, contacts, etc.

You MUST have PC Companion installed or else your computer will not recognize the phone. Update Service is also recommended. If it isn't available at Sony, download from my mirror: http://jp1.ca/androidstuff

NOTE: Flashing an "i" firmware onto an "a" phone will NOT give you 3G in an "i" zone (only 3G in an "a" zone). Flashing an "a" firmware onto an "i" phone will NOT give you 3G in an "a" zone (only 3G in an "i" zone). The radios are FIXED and not changable through firmware.

To root your v2.2, v2.3 firmware, use DooMLoRD's new "zergRush" exploit: [video] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mfRA2j1vXg&hd=1

All v2.x firmwares will work on ANY phone. i.e. if you want German customization, you can flash the German arc firmware onto your North American arc. 3G will still work (in North America) once you enter in your APN settings.

APN Settings (3G/3.5G/H Internet) for Rogers, AT&T: http://pastebin.com/jNse0tpf

If anything goes wrong, use PC Companion, Update Service, the FlashTool, or Wotan to flash the phone again. Unless you break the USB port, you cannot brick an Xperia phone.

  • @TheSkyWalker97 Then what's the issue? Generic doesn't mean there won't be any non-Sony apps. It means there are no carrier apps. I've flashed Hong Kong, UK, USA and Nordic all without issue onto my North American LT18a.

  • @BluechipJ Yes my phone is flashed all data is lost. all apps.

  • @TheSkyWalker97 Are you even flashing your phone because it doesn't seem like you are if nothing's changing. All your data should be wiped. If it isn't, flashing isn't happening.

  • @TheSkyWalker97 and the Generic Trade Central Europe 1 is in the list. What do I have done wrong ?

  • @BluechipJ I've used Generic Trade Central Europe 1 and it doesn't work. I come from Germany.

  • @TheSkyWalker97 Visit the WotanServer website, then your specific device and the selected build. It lists all the firmwares and their branding.

e.g. Generic Trade Australia (2.3.4), Generic Trade United Kingdom (2.3.2), etc.

  • @BluechipJ how do i see which firmware is unbranded ?

  • @TheSkyWalker97 ... select an unbranded/generic firmware. There are typically multiple firmwares for every build/version.
