For those of you looking into buying a "budget priced" video camera, here is an in depth review of the Canon FS-100 standard definition solid-state memory video camera.

The camera shoots at 9mbps at high quality, 720x480 (3:2) widescreen which canon calls "16:9", but it really isn't. It features an anamorphic lens (so be aware of that when working with the video), and a 37x optical zoom. The color reproduction is pretty decent so long as lighting conditions are ideal (best outside).

Great camera for the casual user who is not concerned about image quality, but others looking for a cheap solution to shoot independent films or commercial video should definitely try before they buy (or just look elsewhere and expect to pay more).

Thanks for checking out my review!

  • hey, so in ur opinion is this camera fine for a beginner to use for youtube footage. because the one i am using is just trash. and wats a good editor softwar that is good for a beginer too?

    thanks

  • @TheOmniSoldier

Yes, I think that this camera is just fine for beginner Youtube quality footage. It's a simple camera that performs well in well-lit conditions -- not so well in dim conditions. Image stabilization works great. Luckily, now in 2011 you can get this thing for pretty cheap. Don't pay too much for it and it should serve you well. For software: on the mac you could use iMovie or (I recommend) Final Cut Express; on PC you could try Windows movie maker or one of the sony vegas packages

  • Hey man do you know if you can record off tv's if they have the outputs?

  • @icouldnotfindaname16

As far as I know, you cannot. There is no video input on the camera (only output).

  • do you know if this works with vista and windows movie maker?

  • @oceanviewlvr

I'm not sure (I'm a mac user), but I would imagine it would - if not natively, I'm sure you could at least convert the files to work with wmm on vista (try Roxio Toast or MpegStreamclip).
