  • When I met Neil last August in Austin, I mentioned that this was the first time I'd ever seen him (on Solid Gold), and I think it freaked him out a bit. He kinda rolled his eyes and said, "oh god, Solid Gold!" and laughed! hahaha What a great guy he is in person! And what a fantastic and talented songwriter/singer!!

  • As well as the set, costume and album cover designer, Noel was the percussionist on every album and played drums for two albums. He also did a mean spoons solo.

  • @NebMaatRe1 How does this not have more likes? Noel Crombie may not look like he does much, but he was very talented and brought a lot to the band.

  • @coath514 Yep, but soon he'd become a full-time instrumentalist!

  • @Stocky607 Well, one of them did anyway (technically one and a half I guess) =)

  • Great capture, thanks for uploading it. This was my first exposure to Split Enz--and all it took for me to become a dedicated fan. Lip-syncing or otherwise, at least the camptastic Solid Gold Dancers are nowhere in evidence. Meanwhile, we have a perfect three-minute pop song, a cute-as-a-button lead singer, some colorful New Wave costuming ... and it was *just* edgy enough for my Dad to sneer "Oh god, another punk rock group," which, while inaccurate, made me feel just a little rebellious. ;-)

  • Did you all know, this is the band that went on to become Crowded House?

  • @coath514 he just stands around in the music video too

  • @rsimonse "i believe they also did I Hope I Never on this show"

Yes, that’s true. I remember it well because I had videotaped it, and I watched it a lot. It was my introduction to Split Enz. I’m guessing this was true for a lot of Split Enz fans in the U.S..

  • i guess the lonely dancer in the top left is the tambourine player. poor guy
