Water eruption from a funnel in a pan of boiling water (part 1).
The pan is heated on a ceramic hot plate. The water inside the funnel boils before the surrounding fluid and an eruption results (see part 2). As a consequence the funnel is sucked to the bottom of the pan. This worked as well with a plastic funnel that was submerged.
What are the physics?
Does this compare to a natural volcanic or geysir eruption or not at all?
