Took me a while to get this system working, but now I can run OpenTTD with midi sound in Windows 7 on my iPad.
The Windows 7 is a virtual machine installed on a VMware ESXi machine, you can probably use VMware Player on your desktop and it might even work better.
The iPad is connected to the Windows 7 with Splashtop. However, as the virtual machine had no real audio hardware, it refused to play any audio at first. I had to install "Virtual audio cable" to make windows think it has a sound card, then I had to install "loopMIDI" to get midi playback from OpenTTD working.
Due to the lack of real graphics hardware, many things won't work on the Windows 7 installation (anything requiring Direct 3D), but if I had a better motherboard on my VMware ESXi machine that would support VMDirectPath (e.g. Intel VT-d) I could give the virtual machine direct access to the graphics board.
