Bringing Back the Gun Ban

With Obama promising to bring back the assault gun ban, people are snapping up weapons previously banned for no other reason than the appearance of the weapon. With some calling this rush to buy guns disconcerting, I think we should be asking ourselves what the real threat is--and what the best solution might be.

You say that if civilians didn't have guns there wouldn't be any gun related crime? I say you're naive. In nations where guns are illegal for civilian use, all violent crime is dramatically higher. In the UK, criminals have no fear of breaking into homes or mugging people on the street because nobody is allowed to have a gun. I am an American and allowed to defend myself if my life is threatened. THAT is something to be proud of.

Hi you are very lucky you do not live in Australia we have same of the toughest gun laws in the world we have to be licensed and your guns registered.

Don't take easy access to guns for granted, here in Australia it was common for most households to have a gun behind the kitchen door, there was no licencing or registration. The only thing restricted was full autos. The government brought in licencing of people then registration of each gun, then it confiscated all the semi autos and declared self defence as no reason to own a gun. In a matter of weeks we went from a feely armed country to having to ask permission to buy an air rifle.

I'm for peaceful gun owners, not the ones who use guns to blow people's heads off, just because they can buy a shot gun or a gun and lose their temper on somebody for taking away their crack sales, or whatever else. That's in the city, can be in the country, but it's rare in the country. Gun abusers, FYI many out there, spoil the bunch for peaceful gun owners who would never hurt anybody and actually use their guns in tournaments and for hunting deer or other animals for food. I'm for peace.
