Meet the fishing cat. This feline from Asia is a lesser cat that loves the water and will actually swim to catch its prey. Big Cat Rescue supports the "Way Kambas" park in Sumatra which saves habitat for the tiger, which also is where the fishing cat lives.

  • hello friends... Im Isuru from Sri Lanka. Recently a fishing cat was hit by a vehicle in front of my home. It was dead. So sad for him. I have photos of it with me. but the good news is that their numbers are increasing compared to past. But i really want to care for them.. i love these wild cats... I like to join a club or somthing...

  • @isuruak That's too bad, I'm glad their numbers are increasing but I find this unlikely if their habitat is being destroyed and they're being forced to cross roads etc...?

  • thanks for upping all the vids.

ive got a question, cause i wonder that you have a fishcat.

i thought that theyre number are under 2000. so where do you got these?

have you a breeding program for them?

  • @schneeschaaf Aquarius the fishing cat came from a broker, we do not breed at Big Cat Rescue as this would be adding to the problem of big cats living in cages :)

  • What a beautiful cat. But then, ALL cats are gorgeous. THANKS to BCR for protecting and advocating for them.

  • what's the point of that video if they don't show them fishing?

  • There is nothing wrong with people a responsible exotic animal owner. As long as you take care of the animal and give it a good life, what is so wrong with that? Fishing Cats are related to Leopard Cats, Rusty Spotted Cats, and Flat Headed Cats. I think it is great that you rescue exotic cats! I don't agree with your philosphy on owning exotic animals, but I would always like to help with rescue.

  • i wanted to see him catch a fish.... i hope they throw one in for every meal so he can stay true to his name.

  • @BigCatRescue I'm really curious about the role zoos play in preservation of species. I know they work hard to breed animals and say that their goal is to raise awareness and raise population sizes. What are your thoughts on this?

  • @BVargas78 Indeed. We are living at the end of a golden age when the diversity of animals was still very great. The newly wealthy will want their swimming pools and their burgers just like the rest of us Even if we protect the pressured species their health will suffer because of the shrinking genetic diversity. I admire the wild cats and feel saddened that their time here may be over before this century ends.

  • Handsome beasts. There is a website with images of a pet fishing cat doing various things. Ripping a chicken apart, in a bath of water that contains a catfish, cleaning a domestic cat. .englishrussia.dotcom/2009/07/05/russian-pet/

  • 1:50 hahaha he splashed you!

  • @BigCatRescue The fishing cats my new fave animal :)
