One of the great spectacle moments in golden age cinema.

Max Von Sydow raises the bar on miracles in George Stevens take on Christ's ministry and crucifixion.

Though lifted from his score for THE ROBE, Alfred Newman's hauntingly powerful music perfectly portrays the complex mix of shock and reverence that defines the scene.

  • Though I prefer King of Kings 1961. This scene is the reason Von Sydow I like better as Jesus, this moment is the most powerfull scene I have ever seen!!! No words, little music, and his face convays everything. It sends a chill down my spine.

  • Christ IS ALMIGHTY GOD! AMEN!

  • I Am The Resurrection And The Life - Jesus Christ

  • I saw this film when I was seven. Lot of water has passed under the bridge. This scene STILL sits deeply as one of the greatest retellings of a bible story. The MUSIC ... if I coud play it on an instrument i would, each an every day. It truly brings wings to the regal liftoff. I hope this movie will be released in some way shape or form.

  • Alfred Newman's beautiful score raises this scene to majesty. Can never forgive George Stevens for substituting Handel's Messiah for Newman's specially written Hallelujah chorus!

  • This is a wonderful story

  • How can this scene, not move, even the most cynical of cynics! Beautifully played!

  • Does Jesus raising Lazarus make him God? Looks like the prophet Elisha beat him to it, having raised two children from the dead (1 Kings 17:22 and 2 Kings 4:34). Furthermore, the disciples were bidden to raise the dead (Matthew 10:8).

Did Jesus perform the miracle by his own power or was God responsible?

"Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was A MAN ACCREDITED BY God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, WHICH GOD DID AMONG YOU THROUGH HIM, as you yourselves know." (Acts 2:22)

  • The sudden camera change at 5:15 ruins EVERYTHING... with this music they should have kept the shot from 5:14 a bit longer until lazarus has walked completely out. I also dont understand what the fuck 5:18-5:23 is supposed to be.....

  • @Ioannesmartialis Itake this coment back. After watching this film again, I founf myself moved more by this movie as a whole, then King of Kings. This scene is still the most powerful scene ever.

  • @chopperpilot5

Also, the sporadic chanting of psalms throughout the movie. I couldn't find clips of those parts anywhere.
