Mick Brophy discusses in 2009 the experience of his earlier industry secondment with Nissan and the benefits it provided to Gateshead College in growing their offer of courses in vehicle maintance.
"I went with several colleagues from Nissan into Japan looking at their Global Training Centre, but matching the training that was going on there with what was happening in the plant...with those images and that learning in mind, what I was able to do was come back and form a strategy with colleagues in the college, to build a template for the reformation of our engineering. ... It also helped our resource investments within the college ... and keeping pace with technological change in the industry."
