This is a video taken 1/10/2008 of an annual Japanese Shinto fire ceremony for good luck in the new year held at Sumiyoshi-Taisha Shrine in Osaka, Japan.
If I am not mistaken, these are Shugenjyas. The mountain monks. You can tell from how they dress. So not an official Shinto ceremony. And I think they were doing a ritual to YAKUYOKE. Can you double check your sources plz. Ty

They are Yamabushi - Shugendo Shingon which is Tantric Buddhism
