CSX D021-10 a work train with new rails turns around on the Hyattsville wye. In the opening scene it backs down the east leg of the wye down beyond the apex. The second scene shows the train now moving forward on the west leg of the wye. The new rail was to be unloaded on the Metropolitan Sub near Kensington. Lead engine is an old GP30 converted into a Road Slug with a GP40 mate.

  • In the beginning, is that right outside of the Greenbelt/College Park area?

  • @hawktb9

It about 2 miles south of College Park just off US1 in Hyattsville. If you go over the bridge there that crosses the Capital Sub main line you will see a crossing in front of you. That is the west leg of the wye, To the right at the foot of the bridge is another crossing where the east leg crosses Decatur St. Check it out on Google Maps.

  • Man I Like Your Videos The Trains Are Some Of The Longest Trains I Ever Seen In My Life In My Area I Don't See Trains That Long.

  • Thanks, If you ever get over to Rocky Mount some of these same long train go through there.

  • What does the road slug do?

  • The slug is a unit without a diesel engine that draws electric power from its "mate" to power the traction motors. This is often done on old units that are still useful.

  • LOOK AT THAT CSX ENGINE!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE IT!! IS IT NEW? 3: 51

  • @bubba2781 Sweet! Perfect railfan location! Same for New York Avenue near Union Station (near the Brentwood Mail Center). Lots of cool views of all Amtrak and MARC trains on weekdays on the NEC.

  • as soon as i start watching this i hear one outside llol

  • A slug is also made from an old or obsolete locomotive. The traction motors are left in place as said for more power. The slug can also be fitted with an extra fuel tank to save the hassle of refueling during runs. Slugs can be built with or without the cab intact. The ones with the cab just have their engines removed. In fact, most engineers like operating the slugs with a cab for a smooth and more quiet ride.

  • nice vid

  • Dang graffiti artists screw up these beautiful locomotives!
