The first thing you may notice about the tank is the wicked, kick ass sand on the bottom :) It's called Eco-Complete African Cichlid Substrate, CICHLID SAND for short. Got two pieces of drift wood, and 3 large rocks in the middle giving the turtles something to scratch on, also allowing the fish to hide around, or for the sake of the craw fish, giving him something to hide in. (He would be the bright blue guy that you see hiding in some segments of this video) Also, have a blueish/silverish stiped Cichlid, who can be a little camera shy, but, hes there. There are also two Cory Cats, they should be together in the video, they never leave eachothers side. The tiny, black fish that you see in the back left hand corner is , well, I don't really know what he is , just looked awesome. Also have 2 propped moss balls that we got from PetCo, but the 4 that sit on the bottom of the tank, that we found at Wal-Mart, are a lot more suffecient. You'll also see that we have three Pleco's in the tank, more or less in the middle of sizing, but we have yet to move the massive Pleco over from the 55 gallon tank. The topper that you see is for the turtles to get out and bask on. Since the size of the toppers only go up to a 55 gallon tank, we had to custom make a piece of wood to fit the topper on properly so that the turtles would be able to get out of the water. NOTE: IF YOU HAVE TO CUSTOM MAKE SOMETHING, AND ITS WOOD, MAKE SURE YOU WATERPROOF IT OR IT WILL START TO BEND. (We learned the "hard" way, so we have another piece of custom fitted wood drying with the water proofer on so that we do not run into the same problem again. Lastly, what you should have seen, if you were paying close attention to the video, is the heart of the tank, the two turtles. Had them out of the tank because it was feeding time. The one that is more green in color, and that has the red stripes on the head is a Red Eared Slider, whom. we really think is a male, and the other turtle, who is smaller in size and brown would be a Mississippi Map.
You know that cichlids have to be at a high ph level and have driftwood and moss balls does not help that will bring down the ph level. when buying cichlids you should but them in bulk. You should never buy a couple then abouth weeks later buy more. They are very aggressive fish and you can not just put them with any type fish. You need to keep cichlids with other cichlids. did you not do your research. on african cichlids. african cichlids should never be keep in small tank.
