Did you ever subscribe to REALLY DEEP THOUGHTS? I believe they featured an interview with Tori about the prepared piano. The original was a very old upright that Eric Rosse (and I believe Philip Shenale) practically destroyed. They detuned it. They muted 2 of the 3 strings of each note. They put all sorts of stuff in the key mechanisms. And I VIVDLY remember that Eric smashed the soundboard with something - maybe a hammer.

Saw her in 99... think I'm one of the few straight dudes who love her music.. the crowd I was in was 99.9% women. I love her passion, and her raw translation in her songs.. like the earlier stuff more, but that's cause it awakens my own self-demons. Newer stuff is happier, more serene... but that's OK too, she's still amazing.

Some people live to play the game, some people live to sing about losing. Sometimes losing love feels more real then actually having it. Sometimes when you experience heartache young, you keep experiencing it over and over your whole life. I really do enjoy her because she is so unique and vibrant. Plus beautiful and talented..she is someone you feel connected to because she is comfortable in her skin.

that year was my first time seeing Tori...i wish she would break out that franken-piano she plays here out of mothballs and take it on tour with her again. i loved that thing.
