Epic drama series "Hua Mulan" opening

Title: 花木蘭

Taiwanese produced historical drama series based on the legend of a young lady called Hua Mulan who disguised herself as a man to take her elderly father's place in the army. Her male friends in the army soon discovered her real gender towards the end of her military service.

Disney's cartoon movie "Mulan" is actually an adaptation of this Chinese legend. Hua Mulan is actually her full name.


This epic series is based during the Sui Dynasty era of China (around 600AD) at a time when the Chinese were involved in a series of wars with Turkic-Mongol peoples from Mongolia, known as the Göktürks (known as Tujue in Chinese). Disney's movie inaccurately named the Turkic-Mongols the 'Huns', who were in fact the people who ruled Mongolia about 200 years before the Göktürks.
