  • i fixed it by finding the RIGHT voltage adapter ! (you MAY accidentally switched adapter)

  • Hiya EX0MATRlXTV.

Ive not switched adaptors because i only own one square shaped adaptor.

I bought a new mini b to usb cable aswell.

    Thanks ukadmin.

  • Hmmm, it could be down to the USB ports on the laptop, if you know anyone who can take a look I suggest you do so. I've had problems in the past with my USB ports, sometimes it might be down to the drivers.

Try using a different USB cable, they are not that hard to find as the one used by the Maxtor is pretty standard and see what happens.

  • Hello illage2.

The usb cable is new but i will try to get hold of one to test things further.

However the usb cable is not standard usb to usb.

One side is usb 3.0 stand size and the other end is much different and smaller.

What cable would i need to by in order to test this futher ?.

Also the ports are fine because my sd card reader works in these ports all the time.

    Cheers ukadmin.

  • @ukadmin The one you want is a Mini-B to USB cable.

  • Hey illage2.

Ok cheers mate i will check this out.

My next movie shows the drive fully opened and it shows the usb port on the back of the hard drive which im sure may have already seen.

I will look for one online now.

    Tar ukadmin.

  • Hey rockprince97.

Yes mate i have tried different usb ports on the laptop and i still get the same result.

This has only suddenly in the last few weeks started happening but prior to that everything worked fine.

The maxtor 1 terabyte external drive has been well looked after and never miss treated including all cables and power supplies.

Would you have any other ideas at all ?.

    Thanks ukadmin.

  • Hi illage2.

I tried various usb ports on the laptop and i still get the same result.

The drive sounds absolutly fine and spins as normal so i assume its not dead ?.

The usb cable and ac power adaptor is also brand new so how would replacing these help ?.

Anything else i could trry before more expense ?.

    Tar ukadmin.

  • Try changing the USB port or change the USB cable. If that doesn't do it, you might have a dead drive.

  • Have you try changing the usb port?
