2009 Indycar Edmonton - Tony Kanaan pit fire

Scary situation in the pits as splash of fuel got into Tony Kanaan's cockpit and ignited on him and the car. He suffered 1st to 2nd degree burns on his thumbs, hands, and face. Interview from Kanaan.

Man that's a scary deal. But you gotta love the fact that every man, on any team, with an ounce of water in his hands was out there quick as a flash. This is just one of many clips that show the very worst, and very best of racing moments at the same time.

All of those guys running to help out are amazing. They all know just how horrible the old methanol fires were. Look at the Penske guy spraying his extinguisher from across the wall, he had to have amazing reflexes to have that thing ready to go with Tony still rolling.

Thank Goodness the Penske Guys got rid of that fire...could have ended bad injuries O_O scary. Nomex suits FTW too...

@tjamesga06 Drivers and crew members might be rivals on the track, but whenever a one of there own is hurt, on fire, or worse, they will work there hardest to help each other out.

Well this fire brings up a point of the drivers required to have to visor down to prevent fire burning their face, but the pit crew should also have full face helmets in case they get splashed. Now some may say it would be uncomfortable for them, they would only have it down during the stops.
