Today a lifeguard from the Mauna Kea named Mark and I removed the dead Galapagos shark from the water that was attracting all the Tiger sharks to the Hapuna Beach in Hawaii. (see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myfnwQNccE8&feature=player_embedded for an amazing video of the first sighting of these Tiger sharks taken by a gentleman and his son who were staying at our hotel). Hopefully with this smell removed the Tigers will move on and the beach will be re-opened. Thanks to Lars who first spotted the flash of white from its belly, Lucas Sansone for helping, videoing and keeping a lookout for the Tigers while we were in the water and Mark for helping to pull the thing to the rocks.

  • Ha... if I had this opportunity, you would have seen hundreds of pictures of me doing various things with it.. Ha.

  • @GreenyAndBluey Yeah, I can just imagine what you'd do too!

  • It actually had two large hooks in its mouth. I tried to get them out but couldn't. The shark got its revenge though - I cut my arm on its teeth while I had my hand down its throat.

  • I was the one who shot the video with my son. I have stayed at the Hapuna Beach Hotel many times and have enjoyed it every time. Everyone who works there is terrific and the beach is awesome. We are truly blessed to live in Hawaii.

  • @oahusquid The video is terrific. You both were very calm. It terrifies me to imagine what might have happened if it had been a young child or anyone who would have panicked and starting kicking wildly to get away....

  • Hey it's Chandler and Lars from earlier today! Congrats on the great footage!

  • @AVallstar We are flying out tomorrow morning, I hope that the beaches are reopened tomorrow. It'd be great if you'd let me know if removing this fixes the problem. It was great meeting you today, shame you had to take off when you did! Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay.
