Here I'm machining a Pawn chess piece on our department's Viper VT-15L Turning Center. This is the first time I've ever programmed or even operated a turning center. Some things are not done exactly how they should be done, but it works and its a learning process. I know the facing operation is a little goofy - a proper tool is on the way.
I used Unigraphics NX6.0 to design and program the part.
Coolant was turned off for this demo only, hence some of the odd sounds and non-ideal surface finish.
This project was sponsored by SIUE EUE 2009 Grant Recipiants Felix H. Lee, PhD. and Sohyung Cho, PhD.
