This is a live performance of Aegis recorded July 9, 2011. Credit to who ever recorded it. Sorry for the intense bass.
Here are the lyrics:

The days are catching up to me
my unconscious fear unbound
is it time to tailor fit the notion
that come Sunday I'm in the ground

the obelisk fumes have occupied
emphatically austere
a smelter pile made by the debt collector
where the children should be seen, not heard
even if there is no way back home

I'm not running away

can you hear him saber-rattling?
with bones I've left behind
obloquy is the bulwark of his implants
am I your son or just a clone

Dasehra you were sworn to be
a window to my night
my subterfuge, just branches to the mandrake
where the children should be seen, not heard
even if there is no way back home

I'm not running away

under the aegis of cognition
I am dead
I will escape

en'grammic marks of ligature
am I dead
will I escape

  • I think their new album will be more like De-loused mixed with Bedlam than octahedron was.

  • @skateboardNsnow44 I hope they release another de-loused type, Bedlam isn't my favorite by them, but Octahedron I like a lot. It's very mellow. My favorite is a tie between Frances and De-Loused. But it sucks we have to wait another year for the new album.

  • @NathanJ807 Yeah, I feel very strong love for De-loused. It has so much character to it. The mellowness was something I honestly didn't love so much about Octahedron, since i felt like it made this "character" aspect less strong. As for favorite albums,i LOVE amputechture and de-loused. I could never choose! I do like Frances (which I haven't mentioned until now) and Octahedron( my comments were not intended to be negative just indifferent) nonetheless. So far, anything Volta is beautiful to me.

  • @skateboardNsnow44 Indeed good sir. I like Octahedron because it's very unsettling to me, because of the story I hear in the lyrics and just about every song I hear on there gives me chills. It reminds me a lot of the song Frances the Mute, which was the first song I ever heard from them. And I'm not saying I don't like Bedlam, I love all Mars Volta albums, it's just that I'm more interested in more some of them thatn others. And I agree, Amputechture is a great album, too.

  • Great quality. Thanks for the post. Their opening theme never gets old

  • I didn't really like Octahedron. I thought they were going in the boring direction, just like a lot of very good bands... But this is actually pretty amazing!

  • Great recording and upload.

I'm not super thrilled by the song though...I'm wary about the album if it carries on this kind of vibe. Although, I tend to enjoy Volta's music much better in studio versions, so maybe my opinion will change once the album's out.

Still...if it's more of the same of this, I dunno...

  • Agreed, with just about everyone here

Deloused should be the main thing it should sound like

with a bit of bedlam or amputecture thrown in

  • Very nice! Thanks for the heads up. Already taking a listen.
