We would like to share with you a video which we recorded at the Valletta Chinese Spring Festival "Opening Performance". It was held on 30th January 2011 in welcoming Year of the Rabbit.

The footage comprises 2 folk dances (Tibetan & Machu), traditional music, magic show, a classic Italian song, street parade and brief speeches by the authorities concerned (edited version on this video).

During the street parades, performing troupe handed out Chinese New Year decorative items and souvenirs to the public.

The event was first initiated by the Valletta Local Council 5 years ago and ever since, it has been a growing success and a popular event. The objective behind this event is bonding a closer friendship between China & Malta and cultural exchange.

With the co-operations from the business operators, various shops and restaurants were opened on that day which was a Sunday. Several non-Chinese business premises even put up the Chinese New Year decorations which further enhanced this joyous occasion.

Brief Info:
The China Cultural Centre and Valletta Local Council once again joined forces in presenting the 5th edition of the event entitled Happy Chinese New Year 2011 under the patronage of Malta Tourism and China Embassy.

This year, China Heilongjiang Art Troupe composed of 30 outstanding artists selected from the Opera and Dance Drama Theatre of Heilongjiang Province and Heilongjiang Acrobatic was brought in for the festival. Traditional Chinese art forms, such as music, dance, magic and acrobatics were be presented at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta on 31st January.

  • would the magician be in IBM Ring 202 (Malta)? - Though I notice he seemed to have an interpreter with the volunteer. Pity he didn't have something illusion-size, either with his own assistant or one or more of the beautiful dancers, but if he is from off-island, that'd be some bulk to ship in

  • @bheast86 Thank for your comment. We are not aware if the magician would be in IBM Ring 202. In fact, he had an assistant, a female but we didn't include the rest of his performances on this video due to time limit. The interpreter is a Chinese national who was engaged for the festival.

    Warm regards from Malta,

    Jasmine

  • This was a truly outstanding video. You made me feel as if I was right there in the audience. The dancers were beautiful and colourful and I was amazed at the way they danced in the high platformed shoes. The instrumentalists were so interesting playing instruments we seldom if ever see. Both the flautist and the vocalist were extraordinary and the magician charming. I'm so thankful that the two of you took us along on your trip to the Chinese Spring Festival. Thank you so much.

  • @TheCkwongbilly Thank you very much for your compliments. Gong XI Fa Cai, Nian Nian You Yu.

    Warm regards from Malta,

    Jasmine & Alfred
