It is not just an opinion. It is inevitable. It might not happen in 30 years, or 40 years. The time scale of this might be wishful thinking because he doesn't want to die but it will happen. At the end of the day. If he is wrong, he will die and be immune to gloating. If he is true the people who called him a lunatic are gonna look pretty stupid.

The singularity is a crackpot theory. Things on exponential paths end. For example, Moore's law is no longer true as the limits of optical light start causing lots of problems.
