lol, are those green oniions? cause green onions, you dont need to pull out the entire plant and roots, just cut off what you need and the plant will grow back. green onions is a life time supply or free food. it never really needs to be watered, and it pretty much grows year round. what i did was go to the super marker buy like 2-3 grn onion plants, and placed them in the dirt and whala! never have to buy green onions anymore, its that simple!

those are propably green onions, you harvest those early in the season. those ARE NOT chives. chives are closely related to onions, but they are a herb that you plant one time and trim the tops off of. green onions are also closely related to (realy the same species) as onions you might grow to full size. anyway there are any number of onion varieties that you grow from spring to the end of summer, and ger nice big bulbs out of. based on the thickness of the stalk, those are not among them.

@hillside69boy What you do is plant them on a small mound of soil and when the get about 25% grown maybe you remove the soil around the bulb (just around the bulb not under it)

Those are the smallest onions I have ever seen.

Awesome to come across your vid.
Onions are a natural antibiotic, many of our grandparents used onion juice to treat ear infection in children.
If I were serious about survivalism I would definately include onions and garlic in my 'must grow' list. You have shown how you can make the most of your crop as well as harvest some seed :-)

I like the video. Onions are a great crop for most places in the US and World for that matter. Thanks.
I planted from seed, so had to transplant INTO the ground. Gardening books show big bulbs sitting ON TOP OF the soil. How do you make the bulb grow out of the soil and enlarge? Ray, Brighton, England

why are the bulbs so small?

These went to seed (bolted) before the bulb formed. I could have cut the seed pod off, but I needed some chives and chopped onions anyway.
