Swing starts at 0:58. Watch in HD and full screen! What I love about Rory's swing firstly is his setup-he already looks balanced and solid. Nice neutral spine and straight arms. Hips are dropped well back (bum out) with a light knee bend. Shoulders are back (not rounded) chest and head up. Amazing body turn-definitely takes the arm/club unit away with the body. His right arm remains very straight in the takeaway until late in the backswing. Slight move-maybe 1 inch- into right side but then the right leg remains braced/static and retains same bend as at address (even though knee bend is actually increasing to maintain the same bend because the right hip moves up and behind). Great transition-you can see him clearly squatting -left knee bend increasing significantly and then the left hip being pulled back behind him to square hips (as opposed to the right hip being pushed forward). Weight is neutral-transferred through the left ankle/heel (definitely not transferred to ball of foot). Coming into impact the left leg straightens producing an extra power/speed boost due to centripetal action (body moves up-clubhead must move down). Hands stay in front of the chest through impact and well beyond (it's more of a body release rather than a hand release). You can see he keeps his right heel close to the ground through impact-it is only pulled up by the hips rotating and pulling with the left side (and not because he pushes off the right side), head remains still well after impact-follow through is awesome with full release and nice rounded finish to match the plane of the backswing. He keeps turning/rotating through impact which helps him achieve that perfectly balanced finish. Please visit www.tourswing.co.uk for a new way to learn the golf swing.
