A Double Take At Brooklyn Zoo / TF Mafia

Center of the Hood Productions takes a look a the re-emergence of Brooklyn Zoo, a collective who's council members spent between the last 3-10 years locked up on a variety of federal charges after being labeled a criminal enterprise by various government agencies, leading to the group getting caught up in a broad web that stemmed from an investigation into Manhattan stockbrokers.

This came at the height of the group's success, on the heels of signing a major record deal with Cold Chillin Records (home of the Juice Crew Marley Marl, Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante & MC Shan) and at the peak of their underground single "Masterz of the Zooniverse".

Brooklyn Zoo attracted artists like Foxy Brown, Talib Kweli and Old Dirty Bastard of the Wu Tang Clan. The group had a rocky relationship with ODB that escalated to beef when he and the group were robbed leaving the studio and Old Dirty Bastard was shot during the robbery, blaming the group for setting him up. Old Dirty responded on a single titled "Brooklyn Zoo" on Return to the 36 Chambers. Foxy Brown, Talib Kweli and Old Dirty Bastard went on to have impressive careers while Brooklyn Zoo's been picking up where they left off, but as TF Mafia.

The highly anticipated Bossilini release featuring Bun B, Papoose and Max B with appearances from DJ Kayslay and Power 105.1's DJ Self has critics hailing TF Mafia on in a group of artists including Jay Z, Fabulous & Raekwon tipping the scales in hip hop back from the south towards New York. Their first single "Mafia Muzik" featuring Bun B has been called one of the "sickest" collabs between the eastcoast and the dirty south, amassing thousands of listens, downloads and mix additions.

The rest is history in the making.
