Trying to get help and figure out why my FFXI is doing this. It even does it in PlayOnline.

  • I figured out that it was my cell phone charger. I have a Sony Ericcson 580i and you can charge it through the computer while transferring music.. thats what was doing it. I just unplug my cell and it stops.

  • Just like to add something.. I know its terrible quality but I just wanted to get this uploaded quick. Those who know FFXI, and those with a keen eye will be able to notice the constant pause every other second or so. It rarely effects the sound.

  • Also, my old alienware laptop used to hang on BRD effects, even when they were off screen, and near telepoint crystals, but I think that was the sound card. I don't think it could handle the number of concurrent sounds XI was throwing at it.

  • I've had trouble with QoS, IPv6, and the VirtualBox network adapter. I didn't have any of this trouble until I started using a new netbook with Windows7. I think it may be related to the way W7 handles networking, and with low CPU speed.

  • Disabling QoS instantly fixed the stuttering for me, good job.

  • @Caz53 im really starting to think its cpu related because i used a old ati radeon X850 gt and it was still stuttering

  • @doomtrigger Yeah, I don't think there is a single fix for this. It will be different for lots of people. Some people are saying its HID, others QoS. And others have said it is the way that the newer video cards process older content i.e. inefficiently. I've noticed that disabling my HID decreases my symptoms, but after playing with it for a while now, I have noticed some micro-stuttering.

  • @Caz53 Does not work

  • Confirmed. Disabling "HID-compliant consumer control device" one by one did the trick for me. The effect was instantaneous after disabling one of them, while running FFXI in the background.

    Notes: CPU = Core 2 Duo E6400 // OS = Windows 7 64-bit

  • i had this problem 10 minutes ago, game ran fine until i turned laptop on today. disabled/uninstalled QoS and its fixed.

  • No wireless, just wired. This happens on XP(32/64), Vista(32/64) & Win7(32/64).

I have x2 Ethernet ports on this rig, however only 1 is used but both of which have had all non essential stuff (QoS etc) turned off in there settings during testing.

This problem never used to happen; it cropped up during a game update a little over a year back. As I said, the FFXI support team have openly admitted to me over the phone that they are aware of this issue but have no intention of fixing it.

  • My system seems to be the same as yours: 64 bit - Quad core. Here is a question: Do you have a wired and wireless connection? Try disabling QoS on all your network connections regardless of whether they are on or not. It was the QoS on the wireless connection which was causing the issues for me rather than the wired connection.

I am not sure I want to get dragged into another big game ^^. I really do want to explore FFXIV, especially the water city with ivory bridges.
