  • Oh come on George, how can you blame the breakdown of your marriage on Tammy? Nobody could have put up with your drinking / disappearing / rages / beatings. I was disappointed in your portrayal of tammy in your book. You claimed she "nagged" you. Jesus, you were hitting her! I love your music and especially the two of you together, but you need to be honest to get back respect from people. You don't have too long either, so stop passing the buck. You were the alcoholic, it was your fault.

  • @1SeanPG Thanks for such an insightful comment, and I agree with you too a degree but as much as I love Tammy she did enable it by doing things to make him drink it's all in her new biography but yes George was mean, I don't think he hit and he was absolutely heart broken when she left him

  • I've read a book by him and he did NOT knock down Tammy, he only defended himself wtih two incidences. to Wjpirani, thank you for telling me about their daughter's book. I had no ide she'd written one.

  • I don't think you guys really know all the facts!! I love Tammy, she was and is the greatest but You need to read their daughters book Georgette Jones!!! How well do you know George? A lot of the facts are worng. George didn't leave Tammy!!

I have know him since 1981. And you should read George's book also!! Two side to every story...

  • Tammy is the sun, George is her shadow...

  • Sean I agree Tammy didn't try to understand and she didn't want to, like she said. The mood swings were bad and she never knew how he would be when he came home. It always takes two to break up a marriage. This was unfortunate but she should have issued an ultimatum stop drinking or we are over, then he drank some mpore. But it is not all Tammy's fault either. George Take at least half the blame please be fair??? She died 1st so be kind. Be fair?

  • Finally some people who know the story! I thought Jones was disgraceful in his autobiography. He came off as a selfish, boorish, ignorant, self-centred juvenile. He took numerous unwarranted swipes at Tammy.. even going to far as to name all of the female singers in town he considers better than the First Lady! And as mentioned by others he takes absolutely no responsibility for his actions and wonders why Tammy didn't work harder at putting up with him. Still, best male singer ever.

  • I saw him in Gatlinburg , Tennesse in the middle 80's....I didn't speak to him to respect his privacy..but, another guy recognized him and got his autograph in the hotel lobby... He was super nice to that guy.....

  • P.S. Tammy did'nt write "tragic country queen", Jimmy McDonough did. What you read in this book was HIS take on events. Tammy's autobiography was written when she about 35.

Good to communicate with somebody else interested in this couple though;-)

  • He would wreck his surroundings and punched many a person, including his present wife on more than one occasion (by his own admission)! By the way, I've read "tragic country queen", "stand by your man", "a daughter recalls her mother's tragic life and death" and "I lived to tell it all".

By no means do I dislike George Jones, I love his music and I reiterate, I loved them together. It's just a pity that he does'nt have the courage to really "tell it like it is"

  • @MyJustified I can't accept she was responsible for him drinking in any way. Remember, he was a prolific drinker BEFORE she met him, but she hoped she could help him change. With regards to him lifting his hands to her, I suggest that she would have had a better recollection of these events than him. By his own admission, he had a devil inside him when he drank and a terrific fury.
