Anthony Phillips and Harry Williamson wrote the music for their album 'Tarka" before this movie was released in the hope that the filmmakers would use their music for the soundtrack but they used music from another composer, David Fanshawe.
I really like the soundtrack he composed but as I am a big fan of Anthony
I made this video of 'Tarka the Otter" with the music from Anthony and Harry in it.
It is amazing how beautiful their music suits this movie.
I thought it would take me a week to make this video but I made it in two days.
I could use parts of the movie that were about 3-4 minutes long without cutting.

  • This is lovely, do you know where I could also find the Henry Williamson theme song?

  • @dreamygreen74

  • @desweef This is nice too but not the one I was thinking of.. The one I'm thinking of had a sadness to it whereas this is quite a happy song... Bear in mind I've not seen it since I was a child approx 25 years ago... Thanks for replying. Richard

  • @dreamygreen74 Look at my new video "Tarka the Otter(David Fanshawe)"

Here I think you will hear the song you mentioned.

  • @desweef No, he meant the theme. Anthem's have nothing in common with movie sound tracks. Anthems are devotional songs to a religion, country, or school etc. A theme in a soundtrack is usually defined in the first few measures of music played, and will generally reoccur a few times (though slightly changed perhaps) throughout the film.

  • In the summer of 1976, Pete Talbot was asked by film producer David Cobham to hand raise a baby otter called Spade. Over nearly two years, they encountered a host of animals and fascinating animal people whilst Filming Tarka the Otter. Peter's fantastic experience and gradual awakening to Williamson's masterpiece is uniquely traced, for the first time ever, in his humorous and compelling story ‘Tarka and me’. You can find it on Amazon Kindle.

  • This soundtrack is wonderful - Pete Talbot's book 'Tarka and me' tells everything about the making of Tarka the Otter.

I think the song you're thinking of appears on the album called Halcyon Days: A Treasury of British Light Music. The song is called "Tarka the Otter" by David Fanshawe. I like to call that one the "theme" song and the Anthony Phillips song the "anthem." Not sure if there's an actual difference between the two, but it helps for me.

  • Dude, you are so awesome for uploading these tunes. I've only read Tarka the Otter novel for the first time just a few months ago, and now especially became interested in the music. I hope more people will know about this.
