Point taken...one thing for sure is that I can appreciate Druids spiritual way of life...I'm an African descendant who grew up Catholic but I've been actively learning and adopting the spiritual traditions of my ancestors and their God concept...it so simple and holistic. I hope that both African spirituality and Druidism become more popular around the world...I think we'll all be better for it...at least Mother Earth will. Blessings to you.

Yes, Ancient Druids did human sacrafice. Yet the fact that Abraham did not doubt that God would ask him to sacrafice his son points to the idea that Judaism practiced it. Jesus died for the sins of all; that is a sacrafice. Many religions involved human sacrafice. If you ask why Druidism is reviving based on this then why are these two religions still in existence? Because they no longer do.
Blessings.

Can anybody help me? I'm looking to become a druid. I find peace from nature. I'm a 15 year old boy, my grandmother follows the druid path she gets solace from the sea and the earth. My teacher at school is teaching me about druidry but there's still one unanswered question, how do I BECOME a druid? I'm really interested in what I can get out of druidry and what I can put into it. Blessings.

@Celticborne (4th) We cannot really know how quickly the Druids were all killed and as long as a few survived the tradition could be passed on (albeit more informally then the beginning) maybe that is why Seanchai and other oral story tellers still memorized much of the lore and history. To pass the old knowledge on until persecution died. However, I do not mind that Druidism is a reconstructed religion. Most tales can give a fair idea of the Druids old teachings.

@Celticborne (4th) Many dispute Gardeners claims that he learned what he did from witches (the only one who can truly know the truth was Gardener himself on that). I am not saying Wicca is a broken tradition revived; I am saying that many claim that it is. As for Druidism being broken due to the old Druids dying out. Some converted and passed the traditions on (if you can't beat them, join them). So, perhaps Druidism wasn't as broken as some people wanted back then. Who knows?

@Celticborne (3rd) Most religions do not stay the same way that they had once been because they alter to fit the culture that they are in. Historians have noted that the Celtic peoples (more as tribes then a single people) usually blended their old beliefs with the beliefs of the people they dwelt near in order to create a newer culture style that was still based on the old. So, I am not too concerned about claims. However, even Wiccas claims to unbroken traditions are challenged.

@Celticborne (2nd) They were hunted and persecuted, but these people did carry on the oral tradition until the Christian monks placed some of what they said into writing (although it was Christianized). The Seanchai, although not of the fili, were storyteller historians who kept much of the oral tradition alive. Druidism may have slipped into much obscurity, but many of the traditions and knowledge live in the stories that remain. It is reconstruction of the past ways.

@Celticborne I agree that some of the smaller ones may indeed do sacrifices; I did not mean to make the sentence an absolute (grammar was horrible in that statement). No, nature does have it's light and darkness; it is also like a pendulum that reverts back to another time eventually. As for what you said about the Druids. It is true that none of the Druids really survived, but the bards were storytellers that kept much of the old beliefs alive concerning the Sidhe (Tuatha).

@SeramiNefera people need to realise just because theseold religions offer answers modern religion cant, doesnt mean the old ways are allsun and love and light. Darkness is an inherent part of life, so the religions will have a dark side, even if that means sacrifice. The past is a savage time.

@balius88 Druidism is, simply put, a way of being one with Mother Earth. There are various beliefs with this and any pagan path. There are polytheistic pagans, monotheistic pagans, pantheistic pagans, atheistic pagans, and likely, even pagans who believe that everything was put here by aliens who also happened to build atlantis. As for why you havent heard of it, I have to agree with sandinthestorm. I hope I helped in some way.
-
@freak4naruto It is possible. But normally, followers of pagan religions were involved with them in a past life and want to feel the way they did in that life. So, you may not be descended of any druids, but you may have been one in a past incarnation.
