http://www.mainsteam.co.uk This is a renovation/rebuild of a very old (estimated at around 100 years old) steam model Beam Engine for a customer - it was in a bad state of repair before I started on it, and it needed major surgery. It now runs very well, although the flywheel is far too small for smooth slow running on a beam engine of this size.

  • Fantastic what some could make even in the days before one can buy a screwcutting lathe for less than a months earnings! Bet that craftsman just had a simple lathe and some files!

  • @Axbent I fully agree - it was probably made on an old round bed treadle lathe - manpower - !

  • @keithappleton one thing I noticed right after posting was that its seems to be made from forgings, not castings. So he must have been a blacksmith too!
