http://marksparaglidingpages.com Spiral dive in a paraglider

After a dissappointing few days, a break in the weather meant I could attempt to film with pole cam.

Not bad results I think, considering it was made with a hacked up fishing pole and a roll of electrical tape!

For the novice paraglider pilot, spiral dives are easy to do. There is no skill involved, but they are easy to f*** up too! some people are susceptible to high g's and pilots have been known to blackout, so be careful.

  • its in france right? if so ive been there to!

  • Yes it is. This was at Saleve, which is right on the French/Swiss border overlooking Geneva. A great place to fly. It is very popular with the acro pilots.

  • would u want to send us stuff for music video??

  • Definitely - I have lots of clips you can use, just give me a mailing address and I will send you a selection you can use. Can I slap some of your music on my next videos?

  • Thanks Mandrew. Some GR8 vids on there. Cheers.

  • The camera is a bullet camera with an AV input into a mini-DV camcorder. The actual bullet camera is mounted on a hacked up fishing pole which extends to about 6 feet in front of me. It's problematic to launch with and far from ideal, but it's a cheap solution, and I think th results are reasonable.

  • Cheers Mark. Hoping to get up this weekend - weaher permitting! Pretty cold and blustery here in Ireland at the moment. Brrrrrrrrrrr. Safe flying to you too,.

***** where is your camera mounted for those front shots please Mark?

  • Good for you Genie. It's an amazing sport. Nothing like it. Best fun you can have, with your clothes on!! But it is a risky sport. People do get hurt - and worse - and usually if they are trying to do things they see on YouTube without proper guidance. You will no doubt notice that SIV courses/ festivals are usually conducting over water, with safety boats in attendance. There's a damn good reason for that. Acro flying takes skill. Good luck with your flying and fly safe. You'll enjoy it more.

  • I must confess I did begin with a second-hand wing from Ebay and no training but then I decided to get some training in Ager Spain where I did my EP course in Sept 09.----Thanks.

Where do you mount your camera please Mandrew?

  • Hey Genie, I hope you are getting proper training! What I mean is, I hope you are not someone who has bought a wing off E-Bay and decided to throw themselves off the side of a hill without knowing the basics. Please, do not try this sort of thing without training - like Mandrew says, it's all too easy to get into trouble - only proper training in a school with a qualifyied flying instructor, will ensure you have the necessary knowledge to keep you as safe as possible.

  • Great video Mandrew.Where did you mount the pole cam please. Great result from a fishing rod Lol. Love to see more instructional vids like this one.Just bought a DVH1 Koyot. Thanks.

  • why dont you pull on one toggle and let us never-done-its learn what happens.

Eg, give us a few fundamentals please.

    thanks

  • im 16 and im the youngest paraglider in switzerland atm with a licance

  • I think this is still the best, informative spiral dive on youtube. I am also impressed how you managed to keep talking through the dive as I have problems keeping my head straight 14m/s and certainly no chance to speak. Nice one!
