Sarah Churman, 29, was born deaf. Until recently, she had never heard the sound of her own voice. But thanks to a hearing implant, Churman was able to experience a miracle.

She says on her YouTube channel that she's worn hearing aids since she was two years old and has gotten by on reading lips. Churman goes on to explain the background behind her clear speech:

"My whole life I've been complimented on how well I speak. I don't really have an answer for you other than I have always had a passion for reading, grammar, and English. My hearing loss was/is considered severe to profound. I've worked very hard to be able to interact and blend in."

  • looks like the deaf cult just lost another member

  • A lot of people who are deaf, either 90% or totally, still can carry on a verbal conversation. If they are deaf from birth; along with sign language; they can "hear" what they say through vibratory sensations they feel. They also learn sound from their non-deaf teachers by feeling the "sound vibrations" on their teachers throat. For a normal conversation to take place: it has to be face to face so they can read the persons lips or touch the persons throat.I know, my friend was born deaf.

  • Why this society laugh at people who cannot hear or slow hearing? Humanity is DEAD I know! Everybody does not understand to people who cannot hear well or slow hearing..sorry my english!

  • That must be so overwhelmingly happy. It made me cry happy tears for her. :)

  • I just watched you get your tattoo on NY Ink on tv today omg this led me to your story mad me cry!

  • I also would like to apologize for my first comment it was a bit harsh. I would google Deaf people talking or something like that. I will see if one of my deaf friends will let me video a conversation, so you can have some point of reference.

  • I would not use "speak" as the term for every one, but yes they can. Some times very clearly. sometimes they have some hearing which I would think is the case in this vid. But I know people that are 100% deaf and the still can talk just not like you and me. I would think they don't really have an understanding of audible language, like you or me. But they still know the idea of language and conversation, through sign language

  • But they can verbally speak english? (or whatever language) Seems almost impossible to me, just verifying.

  • Deaf people can communicate they just use there hands, read lips, ect... I know several people that are deaf and they have very "normal" conversation with me and other people they just cant hear.
